Epiretinal Membrane - Observe

The eye can be thought of as similar to a camera, with two main parts, a lens and a film. In addition, there is a gel called the vitreous that is located in front of the retina and is very firmly adherent to it. The film layer is called the retina and lines the back wall of the eye. The area of the retina responsible for our central vision is called the macula.

An epiretinal membrane refers to a sheet of scar tissue which is overlying the macula. Most patients do not have any symptoms from this condition and never develop any symptoms. Patients who do develop symptoms may notice a mild blurriness and/or distortion. The blurriness is located only in the central part of the vision. Distortion is characterized by straight lines appearing wavy.

Your eye care specialist has noticed that you have an epiretinal membrane. However, based on your symptoms and examination, your eye care specialist does not believe your epiretinal membrane is causing significant visual problems at this time. Therefore, no intervention is recommended.

Epiretinal membranes typically remain stable over time. The minority of patients who go on to develop symptoms should be aware that excellent treatment is available.

Your eye care specialist will continue to monitor your eye for changes.Β

Membrana Epiretinal - Observar
